Mental health support with me is vastly different; your child is placed in the driving seat. I believe that an individual already has the ability to heal and bounce back therefore, the focus needs to be on the lived experience of your child. I use a combination of psychological and counselling approaches to achieve therapeutic goals.
I am here to offer guidance and advice of my own; I am not here to tell your child what to do, but rather show what could be done and then for your child to make a decision for yourselves.
"Therapy and the healing journey are unique; not everyone’s experience of therapy is the same." - Sammi
There are some popular misconceptions about counselling/therapy such as: “you have to be crazy to have therapy” or “you have to be suicidal” or “you have to have a diagnosis”. I can assure you, all of these are untrue – therapy is about having someone walk alongside you in your healing journey, to pick you up when the going gets tough and to part with expert knowledge to help your child continue to walk life's journey.
I operate my practice within moral and ethical codes; therefore you can be assured that by working with me, your child will:
Be listened to without judgement
Allowed time and space to come to your own conclusions
Help to work on building healthier relationships
Offered suggestions to positively develop your psychological health
Help to build up a toolbox of coping strategies and knowledge
Provide psychological tools to help recover from and be more resilient to problems or issues
I work in a integrative way. This means I use a variety of psychological and counselling modalities to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people. I mainly use attachment-based, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, existential, mindfulness-based therapy, and humanistic. This means I can offer support and guidance succinctly than one or two modalities.
